What’s up? In this video, we’re moving our scratch transition to beat 3. We’re going to scratch the phrase and drop on beat 3, and we’ll be ending the phrase with a sixteenth note, the “a” of beat 2.
Just a quick heads up: if you’re not using the same track as I am in this video, make sure the beat 3 you’re using is easy to scratch with. If you want to use ours, the link is in the description. Alright, let’s go over the phrase. Here we go!
Rhythm 1 Phrase

Beat three is an interesting beat for me. To be honest, I don’t scratch a lot with beat three. The only time I might find myself using it is if I’m scratching a kick drum from a breakbeat, which is a short, repeated drum pattern commonly used in a lot of songs.
The fact that I don’t transition a lot with beat three is a reason in itself to practice with it. Practice is our friend! Alright, let’s move on to the transition.
Rhythm 2 Transition

The ability to come in on beat three is a tool. More tools mean more options, which means we can be more creative.
Look at it this way: we can practice these phrases and transitions with any sound that we want. The important thing is learning how to bring in a track on any beat you want. You made it this far! Hit the like button! Peace!
