Hey what’s up everybody? Welcome back! We’re continuing to build on our stabs and baby scratches. In the previous lesson, we worked on eighth notes, quarter notes, and eighth rests. In this lesson, we’re stepping things up by adding sixteenth note baby scratches to the rhythms. You’ll find a link to the sheet music in the description below. Alright, let’s get started! The tempo is at 88 beats per minute. Here we go!
Rhythm 1

This time around, let’s focus on playing the accents on beats one and three. The stab is a short, accented stroke, so let’s really make sure that it stands out. They shouldn’t sound like your other strokes; they should sound noticeably different. Alright, here we go!
Rhythm 2

Let’s move on to the next rhythm and keep concentrating on accenting our stabs. This time, we’re going to stab on beat one, beat two, and beat four of the first two measures. For measures three and four, we’ll stab beat two, beat three, and beat four. Let’s pay close attention to the stabs and try not to rush!
Rhythm 3

Time for the fourth and final rhythm. This time, we’re going to stick to the golden rule: count out loud. When we play accented notes, we sometimes focus so much on the accent that we tend to rush. That’s why we are going to count out loud. We are going to make sure that we focus on nailing our timing. Alright, here we go!
Rhythm 4

And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed this video. One key component of good practice is understanding the value of repetition. Developing skills and musical knowledge is an ongoing process, so it helps to choose something specific to focus on with each repetition. That’s how we build our skills, and if you keep at it, progress will come more easily. I hope this information helped you out. Thanks for watching! See you next time. Peace.
